Ammonium Polyphosphate (APP)
Ammonium Polyphosphate (APP) is a commonly used flame retardant, widely used in intumescent fire retardant coatings. Intumescent fire retardant coating is a special fire retardant coating. Its main function is to form a heat insulation layer through the flame retardant gas generated by expansion to prevent the spread of fire and prevent damage to structures when a fire occurs.
Principle
Ammonium polyphosphate is used as the main flame retardant in intumescent fire retardant coatings. Ammonium polyphosphate has good flame retardant properties. When the temperature rises, it will decompose to produce phosphoric acid and ammonia gas. These products can dehydrate organic matter into charcoal, thereby insulating oxygen and heat, thus producing a flame retardant effect. At the same time, ammonium polyphosphate is also expansive. When it is heated and decomposed, it will produce a large amount of gas, so that the intumescent fireproof coating forms a thick fireproof carbon layer, which effectively isolates the fire source from contact and prevents the fire from spreading.
Advantages
Ammonium polyphosphate has the advantages of good thermal stability, water and moisture resistance, non-toxic and non-polluting to the environment, so it is widely used in intumescent fireproof coatings. It can be added to the base material of fire retardant coatings to form a complete fire retardant coating system together with other flame retardants, binders and fillers. In general, the application of ammonium polyphosphate in intumescent fire retardant coatings can provide excellent flame retardancy and expansion characteristics, and effectively protect the safety of buildings and structures in fire.
Application
According to different materials requires on APP, The application of ammonium polyphosphate in coating is mainly reflected in:
1. Intumescent FR coating on indoor construction steel structure.
2. Textile back coating in curtains, blackout coating.
3. FR cable.
4. Massive used in construction, aviation, ships‘s surface coating.
