According to the CNCIC data, in 2023 the global flame retardants market reached a consumption volume of approximately 2.505 million tons, with a market size exceeding 7.7billion. Western Europe accounted for around 537,000 tons of consumption, valued at 1.35 billion dollars. Aluminum hydroxide flame retardants were the most consumed product type, followed by organic phosphorus and chlorinated flame retardants. Notably, halogenated flame retardants constituted only 20% of the market in Western Europe, significantly lower than the global average of 30%, primarily due to stringent environmental regulations favoring non-halogenated alternatives.
In North America, flame retardant consumption stood at 511,000 tons, with a market size of $1.3 billion. Similar to Western Europe, aluminum hydroxide flame retardants dominated, followed by organic phosphorus and brominated flame retardants. Halogenated flame retardants represented 25% of the market, below the global average, driven by regulatory restrictions on brominated products due to environmental concerns.
In contrast, China’s flame retardant market still heavily relies on halogenated flame retardants, particularly brominated types, which account for 40% of consumption. There is significant potential for substitution, as reducing this share to the global average of 30% could free up approximately 72,000 tons of market space annually.
Sichuan Taifeng specializes in producing halogen-free, eco-friendly phosphorus-nitrogen flame retardants, widely used in intumescent fireproof coatings, rubber and plastic flame retardancy, textile coatings, adhesives, and wood flame retardancy. These products serve as sustainable alternatives to traditional brominated flame retardants, aligning with global trends toward greener solutions.
