Types of flame-retardant fabrics and their applications in fire-resistant clothing

Fire-resistant fabrics can generally be divided into the following types:

Flame-retardant fabrics: This type of fabric has flame-retardant properties, usually made by adding flame retardants to the fibers or using flame-retardant fibers. Flame-retardant fabrics can slow down the burning speed or extinguish themselves when exposed to flames, thereby reducing the spread of fire.

Fire-retardant coated fabrics: This type of fabric is coated with a fire-retardant coating on the surface, and the flame-retardant properties of the coating are used to improve the overall fire resistance. The fire-retardant coating is usually a mixture of flame retardants and adhesives, which can be added to the surface of the fabric by coating, impregnation, etc.

Siliconized fabrics: This type of fabric is siliconized, and a siliconized film is formed on the surface, which improves the fire resistance of the fabric. Siliconization can make the fabric have certain high temperature resistance and flame retardant properties

Firefighters’ fire-resistant clothing is usually made of special materials with flame retardant and high temperature resistance to protect firefighters from fire and high temperature environments during firefighting and rescue work. Common materials for firefighters’ fireproof clothing include:

Flame-retardant fibers: Firefighters’ fireproof clothing is usually made of flame-retardant fibers, such as flame-retardant cotton, flame-retardant polyester, flame-retardant aramid, etc. These flame-retardant fibers have good flame-retardant properties and can slow down the burning speed or self-extinguish when exposed to flames, thereby protecting the firefighters’ skin from burns.

Fireproof coating: The surface of firefighters’ fireproof clothing is usually coated with a fireproof coating to increase the overall fireproof performance. These fireproof coatings are usually a mixture of flame retardants and adhesives, which can play a flame-retardant role in fires.

Thermal insulation materials: Firefighters’ fireproof clothing usually also adds thermal insulation materials, such as ceramic fibers, asbestos, glass fibers, etc., to isolate high temperatures and reduce the impact of heat on firefighters.

Wear-resistant and cut-resistant materials: Firefighters’ fireproof clothing usually needs to have certain wear and cut resistance to protect the safety of firefighters in complex environments.

Firefighters’ fireproof clothing materials usually need to undergo strict fireproof performance testing and quality certification to ensure that they can play an effective protective role in fire and high temperature environments. The selection and use of these materials need to comply with relevant standards and regulations to ensure that firefighters can obtain the best protection when performing their tasks.
